Experience
I was first trained at Ferris State University where I received my Bachelor of Science. Later, I got a master's degree equivalent at Eastern Michigan University. I was a high school math teacher for 40 years before my recent retirement. While teaching high school, I instructed courses from beginning Algebra to Pre-Calculus. Math is one of the subjects that I have enjoyed throughout my life. During my tenure as a teacher, I served as an after-school tutor, as well. In my final years of teaching, I taught higher level courses, including AP Statistics courses and Trigonometry. The field of education undergoes changes throughout time, so I have adjusted my teaching philosophy to keep up with the changes. My main focus is making sure that students understand the steps involved in the solution, not just the solution itself. As an educator, I also know that it is important to take a step back and look for alternate ways to explain mathematical theories. During my years as a high school teacher, I also coached golf and basketball. One of my proudest achievements was becoming the head basketball and golf coach for over 20 years. Outside of school, I like bird watching and working outside in my garden.
